Welcome, my name is Barbara Tautic and I have been a decorative painter for 29 years, 25 as a teacher.
My interest in art started in my childhood, where being in a new country at the tender age of 5, not speaking the language, a coloring book, pad of paper, and a box of crayons, would pass the time. I spent hours at our backyard table absorbed in sunshine and my crayons.
The years in school always put Art 1st on my class schedule, followed by World History and Social Studies.
Having been very active in Ceramics, Antique Porcelain Reproduction Dolls and their clothes, and Antique Doll repair, I wanted something closer to home when children blessed our lives.
I took my first painting class in 1979 and was instantly hooked. The more I painted, the more seminars I took, learning special techniques form these gifted teachers. I signed up for a weekly class and was asked to teach some special projects at that studio. I loved watching others learn new ways to do things. I eventually opened my own studio where I could teach and paint.
I have taught many weekend seminars in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Long Island, New York, and New Jersey, and continue to teach both in and out of my studio. I still take painting seminars from worldwide teachers to continually improve my skills as a painter and teacher. I will always be a student in a sense, as I never want to stop learning.
Being fascinated with Roofus Porter and his way of painting with such freedom sparked an interest in the colonial arts and floorcloths. I wanted to paint them and after some research, seeing what these cloths were selling for today, I knew that I could change the market. Make them well and make them affordable. I needed someone to share in the vision I had. Diane has made this a reality. Her talent and creativity not only in the canvas pieces we do, the shows where we sell our wares, but in the home decor as well, will enable us to continue to do what we both love to do. PAINT.
So come, browse, talk about, and shop. We want this to be your place as much as it is ours.

From a young age, I have always loved art. You could say that I am a self taught artist. I started painting 25 years ago and I have loved and enjoyed making many different art projects during that time. I wanted to learn more techniques so I took some classes with Barbara where I made my first floorcloth. That was 6 years ago, and I have been making floorcloths and other various art on all different surfaces since.
My love for antiques has lead me to lean towards the historic and primitive designs. I do reproduction floorcloths from the historic homes, such as the Edward Durant house in Newton Massachusetts, 18th century traditional diamond, or New England Floor stencil from the Wayside Inn in Sudburry Massachusets (circa 1780), along with many others. I enjoy designing different patterns and styles using many creative techniques. Custom Floorcloths are available on request. - Diane
